LO5: Reflection On feedback

After our meeting with Vicky Kilby we received a few things our team need to improve.

You can tell who our target audience is by our script, it relates to the lifestyle by mentioning conventions such as EGX. The script shows that it is more aimed at males by mentioning games with an action genre which is stereotypically something a boy would more interested in. The age of the target audience are teenage boys, so (13-19). The script for the Games Corner shows that it is aimed at local people because it is on Sheffield Live so it is Yorkshire based.

*More information needed to be included from a larger variety of games releases.
*Research for local gaming events as well as development and tech.

We will improve our script by following these two points, which should lengthen the script and include more relevant information which will interest the audience.

We were succcesful in:

*Following the genre in the script.
*Script was written well and shared well between both presenters.
*The language and form in the script was understandable for the target audience.
*We had an upbeat tone.

1. In this unit we created a 5 minute TV News Broadcast script which is created to be broacasted on to Sheffield Live! The show is named The Games Corner and the target audience are people who play a lot of games and have an interest in finding out about new game releases and reviews. The Games Corner has a NRS social grade of C1, D & Eno most of the viewers don't have a large income. The script refers to the target audience as it talks about mainstream games that are inexpensive.

2. Vicky mentioned that our script contained relativity good information but felt like we didn't go in to much depth on some topics. She agreed with our form and style and said we spread everything out fairly but our script was more international than just targeted at people from Sheffield. We now have to do research on local gaming events and conventions which we shall include into the script. This is important as Vicky has experience and knows how to make it look professional and up to standards.

3.We need to make minor changes to our TV News Broadcast and make it more local and more in depth. We will talk more about game play and new releases. We also need to add more camera directions in order to make it more descriptive. This will make our script up to standards and more professional, as well as helping us conect to the target audience.

4.Our content and layout meets the conventions of a TV News Broadcast. Vicky says how the script follows all the conventions and told us how nicely we had presented the script. Our language was informal as we aimed for presenters to be relaxed and be themselves, this will help connect with the young audience. We were still very informative and followed conventions. The house style used follows the conventions as it was written in the font Courier size 12. This makes it clear to follow and all the team can follow this script. When writing our script we ensured that  it follows the typical conventions of a script with the location, GFX and SFX on the right hand side, the dialogue in the centre and the camera actions on the left hand side. The mode of address we used was both peer to peer and teacher to pupil so it can both be informative but with a relaxed nature. Nothing has been missed out on the script be we need to work on being more specific.
This will help the script be more descriptive to both the presenters, the camera team and the editing team.

5. Ofcom Broadcasting codes shows that our script is appropriate for children under 18. The show is broadcasted mid day so must be pre- watershed. This means offensive language, sexual, drugs or violent refrences can not be included. Our script is free from any of these and follows the Ofcom code. Because of this we have not mentioned any games that are aged 18. All legal and ethical issues have been considered. We don't want to be portraying anything inappropriate to the audience, so we have abided the Ofcom codes. We would receive copyright for both music and graphics by asking for permission to use and credit in our show. We do this in order for us not getting sued. We will ensure that all information is not libel which means false information. We would have to source our information and official websites, this is very important to ensure no information given is false.

LO4: The Games Corner Script Feedback.

Due to illness i was not able to attend this meeting, but this is the information i received from the other members of the team.

The 5 questions were...

1. Do you think that our script follows the correct genre of The Games Corner? Why?
2. When researching our week, it seemed to be very slow for news - Do you think that this shows or is there enough content for a substantial news section?
3. Do you think that the dialogue is shared between you and Jordan well or is it too one sided?
4.  Does the language and form used in the script make it understandable for your target audience? Why?
5.  What would you change about our script?

Evidence of meeting.

LO3: Production Schedules.

LO2: Moodboard and Audience Profile

The Games Corner has a PRS social grade of C1, D & E which means viewers have very little disposable income and quite a few families are on benefits.   This is due to SLTV only being available for the people of Sheffield and Sheffield is known as being a deprived area.

Hey, I'm Josh and I'm 15 and from Sheffield.  I'm currently studying my GCSEs at Chaucer School.  My favourite subject at school is art and I'm predicted to get an A in it! I really enjoy writing too because it lets my creativity flow.   But my main interest is gaming.  I'm not ashamed to admit I am one of the biggest gaming geeks going.  My favourite game is the Halo trilogy which I started playing on Xbox 360 but now I have an Xbox One and the graphics on it are just amazing.   I love the surreal escapism of the gaming, it takes me to a different place.  My gaming obsession started when I was around 10 and I was introduced to Minecraft by my older brother.  I literally didn't see day light for weeks on end when I first discovered Minecraft.   I love everything about it, the missions and wars as well as the social side.  I now have my own clan and we've all added each other on Xbox Live and play other games against each other.  I get an allowance from my mum and dad weekly which I save to buy new games.  My next purchase will be the new Star Wars game which is getting released before the new film!!  In order to help me decide which games to buy, I enjoy watching YouTube reviews.  My personal favourite reviewer is Arsonall and he reviews all of the adventure sci-fi games which are right up my street.  I have recently found out that Sheffield Live TV! are launching a gaming show called Games Corner which I will definitely be watching religiously.  I love hearing to people's opinions of games and seeing what they rate them.  I also want to go to a gaming convention in the summer such as Play Expo and I've heard that the guys at Games Corner have an episode based all around it so I'll be watching and seeing how good they thought it was!  Also, the new section that they have will inform me of any upcoming gaming nights and events which I'm really interested in attending.

Radio Drama Script.

Tv Drama Script.

LO1: Analysing different scripts.

Style and content.
The house style of the script is commonly written in a currier font and the size is usually in 12, this is because it is made very clear to read and looks organised and neat. The writing tends to be written in a middle column for dialogue, this is so it is easy to follow and you don't have to read all the way cross the paper.  They can be written formally or informally depending of the genre and what the script is for, for example, for a TV news broadcast the script will be very formal as they are reading out of previous serious events that have happened, the sound comparison of a radio chat show and a TV news broadcast is that a radio chat show tends to be more relaxed and informal where as it is very important that anything broadcasted on the news is scripted and serious. There are different types of mode of address, peer to peer is informal and how you would speak to your friends, the radio script i chose is this mode of address. teacher to pupil is formal as it usually means you are being instructed and told what to do, for example, this is the mode of address for the TV news cast script i analysed. Mother to child is both formal and informal.

Screenplays have character descriptions in order to show how the actor needs to be acting to be playing the role of this character. Different people use scripts, the script is to guide someone on what they say on camera or radio. A computer game would have a flow chart to plan out a plot and characters for the game, it makes it easy to follow and plan keeping everything organised. A flowchart can also show each different movement which can be made by a game that is single stranded, this is so the game can have lots of different options and freedom of what the character can do, for example Heavy Rain.Presenters and characters are justified to the middle so dialogue is always clear, the names of who ever is speaking has their name or character name above the writing they are meant to be saying. Video games have a synopsis because it shows the plot and introduces main characters and what you have to do as part of this story, it gives an idea on how you are going to be involved in the game and the context of it.  TV shows, Films, all have stage directions and locations, this is in order to let people know the plan of where the actors or presenters have to stand. Sound effects are used to set the scene to create the digesis. The mode of address means how dialogue is brought across, for example peer to peer, mother to child and teacher to pupil. The narrative structures of screenplays includes titles, synopsis, location (INT. EXT.) The characters names are usually in bold to make it easier to follow the script with out accidentally reading the name, it also shows the fade in and fade out.

Narrative Structure.
The four types of narrative structure in script writing.

Single Stranded: This means you are learning from this characters perspective or you are playing as a character. This can make the audience get really into it as they feel like they are the actual character.

Multi Stranded: This means there are lots of characters involved. Lots of cross cutting of different narratives happening at the same time. This can take awhile for he audience to get a hang of who each character is and getting to know them.

Linear: This means it has a beginning a middle and an end, it establishes characters and location in the beginning and then the middle climaxes and creates the main plot and enigma, and the end shows how it finishes to bring it all together and then everything is usually resolved. This makes sense to the audience, it is easy to follow and keeps the audiences attention.

Non Linear: This means that the story doesn't have an order but it is still understandable and makes sense to the audience, for example, Scott Pilgrim vs the world has a non linear script.
A TV news broadcast running order is different to the rest. This can become confusing if the audience isn't giving their full attention.

Genre.

Fiction: Fiction means that it is made up. For example scripts that have mythical creatures is clearly not based on a real event. The TV drama script on my blog is fiction.

Non fiction: Non fiction is based on real events. Documentaries have a non fiction script. The TV news broadcast script on my blog is Non fiction.

Target audience.

The target audience for video games are stereotypically teenage males, it's a way of escaping from reality. Not many teenage boys have an income so they depend on their parents who are most likley to be ABC1.

The target audience for screenplays depends on which genres, for example a Disney film will attract a young audience. All films are given a rating for example 'U' means universal, so anyone can watch it. 'PG' means parental guidance. '12a' means you can watch it at 12 with parental guidance. '12+' means you can watch it from 12 or above. '15+' means you must be 15 or above to watch. and '18+' means you must be 18 or above to watch. Usually the reason for something being rated an 18 is because it is too sexually graphic, violent or both.

The target audience for a TV news broadcast is mainly aimed at adults but anyone is legally allowed to watch it, I think this because if there is something about murder etc, it tends to be too graphically described for younger viewers.

The target audience for TV drama scripts are stereotypically aimed at middle age women, they are usually ABC1 demographics as they are working class and have a fair income. Due to watershed, if the drama is past 9pm it has a more mature audience.

N.I: News Item. This means that there is no video support, it is only 30 seconds long and is read by the anchor.

Silent: The presenters voice is anchored to the visuals and is the only sound (Cutaways)

Nat Sot: The voice of the presenter is anchored and the visuals sound natural (fire incident)

Sot: This stands for Sound on tape. If it's an interview, a VO or nat sound.

V.O: This stands for voiceover, it is the presenter narrating the visual.
